Coaching

If I had to choose between Mario Cristobal and Mike Norvell to go to any school in America and build it from scratch, I’d take Norvell 100 percent of the time. His track record at Memphis and what he’s done at FSU is impressive.

We’ve seen Mario Cristobal inherit big talent and waste it. Cristobal can’t evaluate or attract the type of guys Mike Norvell can.

Just look at the hiring process for Cristobal since he’s arrived in Miami. It took him forever to hire an offensive and defensive coordinator in year one because nobody wanted to work for him.

Once he made hires, he fired the offensive coordinator, and the defensive coordinator left after one year. Look at hires like Alex Atkins and Patrick Surtain.

That’s an elite evaluating from Mike Norvell. Coaches leave Mike Norvell’s teams and become head coaches or receive promotions. Norvell runs circles around Cristobal from an X’s and O’s standpoint.

Oh, and he’s whipping him on the recruiting trail now, too. From an organizational standpoint, Mike Norvell has things in place down to the smallest detail. All Cristobal cares about is recruiting.

Recruiting is important, but if you don’t have everything else in place, that talent doesn’t reach its potential. Just ask Jimbo Fisher.
