Trey Benson Continues To Haunt Mario Cristobal

I joked after last year’s game, that FSU should just put a Miami shirt and Mario Cristobal face on the opposing head coach every week. Trey Benson had a massive game against Miami last year, and the trend continued in 2023.

Benson finished the game with 16 carries for 80 yards and a 17-yard reception. If you didn’t know, Trey Benson played at Oregon when Cristobal was the head coach.

Benson suffered a terrible injury while at Oregon, and Cristobal must have thought he was not worth bringing to Miami when he took the job in South Beach. It seemed like Trey Benson used that as fuel to motivate himself.

I’ve been critical of Trey Benson tip-toeing and not running with a physical style, but that wasn’t the case Saturday evening.

He ran hard and broke several tackles against a defense that had been stout against the run all season.
