Get Off The Field On 3rd Downs Defensively

The FSU defense has been outstanding on third downs since the bye-week, with opposing offenses converting 15 of 68 third downs(22 percent).

Miami has been suspect on third down conversions over the last two games (9 of 28).

Miami will look to keep themselves ahead of the chains and avoid predictable passing situations. However, the FSU secondary is the best in the nation at breaking up passes (53) and in quarterback completion percentage (48.4 percent).

If FSU can get Miami’s offense off-schedule and get off of the field on third downs? Miami’s defense will be under immense pressure against one of the top offenses in the nation. If the FSU defense can’t consistently get off the field on third down?

That means Miami’s offense can help play defense by keeping the FSU offense off the field. It would also help Miami’s defense if they can sustain drives.

If Miami’s defense is constantly on the field, the dam will ultimately break, and it’ll be off to the races for the FSU offense.
