FSU football: 3 major takeaways from win over Pittsburgh
By Kelvin Hunt
Defense Dominant
I’ve said it all year, but the FSU defense has been the most consistent unit on this team. They forced a punt on four of Pittsburgh’s first five possessions. If the FSU offense could have taken advantage, the game could have been a rocking chair game early.
The defense was given a short field a couple of times and held up nicely without allowing any points. FSU held Pittsburgh to 0 of 11 on third downs and forced three turnovers. The latter was an area some FSU fans and pundits criticized Adam Fuller’s defense last year.
They have forced 12 turnovers in nine games this year, compared to 16 in 13 games last season. FSU lowered its nationally leading completion percentage by allowing only a 41.6 completion percentage Saturday, which is 10 percent lower than the Pittsburgh QB’s season average.
We must remember the defense is playing at this level while rotating a ton of guys, which is incredibly impressive.
I think they match up well with Miami next week, and things could get spooky if the FSU offense plays anywhere near where they’re capable.
