The Impact of Jamir Watkins

Jamir Watkins was one of the Seminoles’ notable transfers, who came from VCU. Standing at 6’7″, Watkins has tremendous size and can wreak havoc on the defensive end. In Sunday’s game against Flagler, Wakins was one of the players who set the tone defensively for Florida State.

Watkins showed that he was a terrific ball-stopper. When an opposing player brought the ball past halfcourt, Watkins anticipated the defensive task. He displayed active hands and secured multiple steals that led to easy baskets on the other end. Alongside being active defensively, Watkins also was the shining star offensively.

Watkins led the Seminoles in scoring with 18 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field. He was efficient from the perimeter while also displaying multiple highlight dunks. Watkins’ contribution on offense is a huge boost for Florida State. As the team shot 33 percent from three last season, Watkins could be a leading factor in increasing that percentage.
