Florida State basketball: 10 best NBA careers in Seminoles history

No. 7 best Florida State basketball NBA career: Mitchell Wiggins
Wiggins had a long journey to Florida State even before his long winding road in the NBA. He began at Truett-McConnell, then spent a year at Clemson before finishing with two seasons at Florida State.
He was dominant as a Seminole, averaging 23.8 and 22.7 in those two seasons. That was enough to warrant the Pacers spending the 23rd overall pick in the storied 1983 NBA Draft.
Wiggins is a bit of a what-if story in the NBA. He was good in his first four years, mostly coming off the bench and averaging about 10 points a game. Then he was suspended for two-and-a-half years for cocaine use. When he returned in 1989, the Rockets gave him a chance and he scored 15.5 points a game on 49% shooting over 66 games.
He went unsigned in 1990 and finished his career playing 49 games for the 76ers in 1991-92. Wiggins’ legacy in the NBA extends beyond his own career. You might have heard of his son Andrew who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft and was a part of the Warriors 2022 championship team.
