WF Offensive Line Regressed Badly

One of the frustrating aspects of the 2022 game was Wake Forest’s ability to run the ball successfully. It was a combination of the slow mesh, FSU not having Fabien Lovett, and their offensive line wasn’t terrible.

They only allowed 73 tackles for a loss and 38 sacks through 13 games in 2022. They have already allowed 61 tackles for a loss and 31 sacks through seven games in 2023. Georgia Tech had eight sacks.

Clemson had four sacks (8 TFLs), Virginia Tech had seven sacks (13 TFLs), and Pittsburgh had two sacks (9 TFLs).

To be fair, some of those games include Wake Forest playing their backup quarterbacks when the starter was out, but that’s a ton of negative plays with Clemson as the only elite defense in that span.

FSU hasn’t gotten as many sacks as one would have thought at this point in the season. However, they have played a ton of mobile quarterbacks and teams looking to get rid of the ball quickly.

This game could be an opportunity for the defense to pad those stats a bit with an offensive line allowing teams to get that much pressure.
