FSU football: Three possible contributors with Johnny Wilson out with injury versus Syracuse
FSU football is back in Doak Campbell Stadium for the second of a three-game home stand where they will take on the Syracuse Orange, who are coming off two straight losses to Clemson and North Carolina.
According to a report from ESPN College Football Senior Writer Pete Thamel, Florida State redshirt junior wide receiver Johnny Wilson will be unavailable for today’s contest against the Syracuse Orange due to a lower body injury.
The Seminoles are currently 18.5-point favorites against the Orange. While FSU cannot afford to overlook an opponent that is trying to get back to their winning ways, it is probably a wise decision by the coaching staff to sit Wilson for this game as they await a potential top-25 home matchup against the Duke Blue Devils next weekend.
The former Arizona State transfer suffered a lower body injury during the third quarter of the Seminoles’ 39-17 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Wilson is the team’s leading pass catcher with 20 receptions for 357 yards and two touchdowns thus far this season.
FSU fans have questions in regards to distribution of targets in the offense. Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman have combined for 40 receptions with 635 yards and eight touchdowns.
With Wilson’s injury, there will have be other wide receivers on the roster that will need to step up in a meaningful way. Here are three wide receivers who I believe could contribute in today’s contest:
•Kentron Poitier
•Destyn Hill
•Hykeem Williams
I believe that redshirt junior Kentron Poitier will be the most realistic option to step up for the Seminoles. While the veteran pass catcher has not recorded a statistic this season, he just returned from injury and made an appearance in the Seminoles’ win over Virginia Tech. He has the necessary collegiate experience to emerge as a notable target for quarterback Jordan Travis today.
