FSU football will be taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday, October 7th in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium. This will be their first home game since September 9th when the Seminoles defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles by a score of 66-13.

As a result, the coaching staff would like to make the most of their opportunity with the three-game home stand of Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Duke by bringing in as many highly-touted prospects as possible.

The Seminoles have done a tremendous job thus far in constructing a 2024 recruiting class that will be one to remember. At this time, FSU ranks No. 6 in the 2024 247Sports Composite rankings with 21 commitments.

McCray to FSU?

However, the coaching staff isn’t done acquiring more prospects to this class. One recruit that needs to be monitored closely is four-star defensive lineman LJ McCray, who will be officially visiting Tallahassee this weekend.

The Mainland High School standout took official visits to Florida (June 2-4), Miami (June 9-11), Auburn (June 12-14), and Georgia (June 14-16) this summer. It was a bold strategy to schedule an official visit for him in the fall instead of having him visit on the big June 23rd recruiting weekend.

‘Noles have a chance?

Most individuals thought that the talented defender would commit to a university before the summer’s end. However, he has elected to remain uncommitted until he concludes his visit with Florida State.

This speaks volumes to the Seminoles’ chances in this recruitment. At this moment in time, FSU only has two defensive lineman prospects committed to their 2024 recruiting class in four-star defensive end DD Holmes and three-star defensive tackle Jamorie Flagg.

Is McCray a priority need?

McCray is viewed as a hybrid defensive lineman, who is at 6’6” and 260 pounds. During the 2023 season, the talented defender already has 33 total tackles (13 tackles for loss) and seven sacks.

Defensive line recruiting has to be a priority given that the Seminoles will have players such as Jared Verse, Dennis Briggs Jr., Braden Fiske, and Fabien Lovett Sr. depart after the 2023 season.
