FSU football is coming off a much-needed bye week, where they will be back in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, October 7th, at 3:30 p.m. to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The game will air on ABC.

Opponent Preview: Virginia Tech

The Hokies are fresh off their 38-21 victory against the Pittsburgh Panthers. It is noteworthy quarterback Kyron Drones completed 12 of his 19 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. He also showcased his dual-threat ability, adding 41 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
To make matters worse for the Seminoles’ defensive unit, Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten had 24 carries and 109 yards in the confidence-boosting victory. In terms of the defensive side for the Hokies, the unquestioned leader has been linebacker Keli Lawson, who is leading the team in total tackles with 48.

Should FSU be worried?

While the Seminoles are currently listed as 25.5-point home favorites against the Hokies (opened as 28-point favorites), head football coach Mike Norvell and company cannot take this team lightly as every team on the schedule will give FSU their A+ game (see Boston College’s efforts).

This Hokies team has a dual-threat quarterback in Drones that can utilize his legs to keep FSU’s defense off balanced. The Seminoles has had its fair share of scrambling quarterbacks that have had success with LSU’s Jayden Daniels (64 rushing yards) and Boston College’s Thomas Castellanos (95 rushing yards).

While most individuals doubted the abilities of Virginia Tech after they lost three straight games to Purdue, Rutgers, and Marshall, it is great to see the Hokies respond in a positive manner against a physical Pittsburgh squad.

Analysis

Can the Seminoles focus in for a full 60 minutes? While this football team has shown flashes of dominance at various points during the season, they have also displayed inconsistencies that have hampered them from being the best version of themselves.
