GETTING MORE AGGRESSIVE ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE FOOTBALL

The most important play in Florida State’s overtime victory against Clemson this past Saturday was when redshirt senior linebacker Kalen DeLoach came on a blitz to deliver a huge hit on quarterback Cade Klubnik, which jarred the football loose. As a result, DeLoach recovered the fumble and returned it for a 56-yard touchdown to tie the game at 24-24 late in the third quarter.

That was a defining moment in the game, where it looked as though the Tigers would go up by two possessions. Thankfully, the defense did not allow Clemson’s offense to drive up and down the field in the second half. It became apparent that the Seminoles wanted to make it more difficult for them to operate. Four of their seven offensive drives in the second half/overtime did not have more than 25 yards.

While I understand that FSU’s defense has to disguise pressures to confuse offenses, the Seminoles need to take more chances to ensure opposing quarterbacks do not have time to make multiple reads and have a sense of comfortability in their game plan.
