FSU football: Ja’Khi Douglas has returned to practice after injury
FSU football averages 43.3 points per game offensively after playing the likes of LSU, Southern Miss, Boston College, and Clemson.
The offensive unit has not been viewed as something that has been clicking on all cylinders, but quarterback Jordan Travis and company have started to come alive in the second quarter (especially in the LSU and Clemson contests).
There have been times when it seems as though the offense goes stagnant, such as the fourth-quarter performance against Boston College.
However, the Seminoles conducted their practice on Tuesday morning and could have a proven playmaker back in the fold.
That particular player is redshirt junior wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas, who head football coach Mike Norvell alluded to in a previous press conference that he was out for a few weeks with an injury.
The former Class of 2020 four-star prospect has been productive during his time in Tallahassee, where he recorded 10 receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns last season. It is worth monitoring that Douglas also suffered an injury in 2022, where he missed seven games.
It will be great for the offense to have a familiar face for quarterback Jordan Travis to throw to. It always seems like Douglas shines biggest in the biggest moments for the Seminoles. Most notably, his catches versus Notre Dame and Miami in 2021 were memorable.
Wide receivers in the slot have not contributed much this season as redshirt senior Winston Wright Jr. only has four catches for 36 yards, while true freshman Destyn Hill has one catch for 18 yards.
Overall much of the receiving production has gone to wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, running back Lawrance Toafili, and tight end Jaheim Bell. With Douglas returning to action, it could allow the offense to have another weapon that Travis could spread the football to.
