FSU football: ChopChat staff reacts to thrilling overtime victory versus Clemson
FSU football secured a massive victory on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the Clemson Tigers by a score of 31-24 in overtime in the hostile environment of Memorial Stadium (Death Valley).
The Seminoles did a fantastic job of battling through adversity, especially when the Tigers lead by a score of 17-7 late in the second quarter. Instead of panicking and forcing the issue like they did in their nail-biting 31-29 victory over the Boston College Eagles last week, FSU took a deep breathe and handled business.
The “monkey is off their back” where they have now defeated the Tigers for the first time since 2014, and Clemson has suffered their second home defeat in 42 games.
In today’s article, we decide to bring you the ChopChat staff’s reactions to the thrilling overtime contest from yesterday:
•Taylor Devers: “Survive and advance. It wasn’t easy by any means. But the Florida State Seminoles were able to accomplish a feat that they have not been able to do since 2014: Beat Clemson. This was a massive victory by head football coach Mike Norvell and company. This sends a resounding message to the college football world that this football team is a serious College Football Playoff contender.”
•Kelvin Hunt: “Good teams find ways to win. The defense picked the offense up in the second half. A lot of folks want to blame Adam Fuller, but the offense hasn’t been great the last six quarters. However, when it counted, FSU made a few more plays and pulled out a huge win on the road.”
•Nick Andre: “In hostile territory, Florida State got the job done. It wasn’t pretty by any means but the team stuck together and finished the task. (Mike) Norvell continues to show why he’s one of the best coaches in college football. Now, we continue to climb the ladder in the AP Poll.”
•Jason Zang: “I would like to see the running game get going with only twelve rushes between Benson, Toafili, and Hill. Moving forward, they need more touches. It was good to see Coleman and Wilson get going again. The defense bailed out the offense.”
