FSU football is loaded at the wide receiver position this season. Everyone always seems to mention the likes of the big-bodied playmakers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson.

However, there are several receivers under the radar with their presence, such as redshirt junior Deuce Spann. The former quarterback Illinois transfer has not made a sizable impact during his time in Tallahassee with only nine receptions for 87 yards and zero touchdowns.

He has only managed to have one reception for 23 yards during the early portion of the season. However, the coaching staff still has high hopes for the St. Petersburg (FL) native.

On Wednesday morning, head football coach Mike Norvell met with the media after practice and said the following about Spann: “You grow through confidence with your experiences. Deuce is an extremely hard worker. When he comes out to practice, he has a purpose to get better.”

Many fans remember during last season’s matchup against the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes when Norvell was livid at Spann on the sidelines after he committed a 15-yard personal foul penalty.

For reference, the Seminoles were up by a score of 38-3 with 10:03 left to go in the fourth quarter. With the heated exchange, you would have thought that FSU was in a close contest with the Hurricanes.

The conversation between Norvell and Spann at that moment signifies how much the coaching staff cares about the value of what he brings to this football team.

Some football coaches would have let the frustrations die down or just ignored it altogether because of the score indicated on the scoreboard. However, Norvell understood how important it was at that moment to allow Spann to grow and develop from the experience.

While it will be difficult for the former Illinois transfer to have a sizable role in the offense with an abundance of playmaking options, he could be in a monstrous senior season in 2024 and beyond.
