FSU football has familiarity with dealing with Hurricanes, though they haven’t played one in a couple of years.
One wouldn’t think FSU would have to worry about a Hurricane with a road game at Boston College Saturday, but that seems to be the case as Hurricane Lee is on a northern path to be in the vicinity around the noon kickoff.
Football fans want to know how this storm could impact the game. According to the latest reports, the storm will weaken to a category one, but the wind field is expected to grow wider.
Boston College’s Alumni Stadium is only about nine miles west of the ocean, just northwest of the boot-looking shape part of Massachusetts coast. The storm will literally be parallel to the Boston area around noon when the game is supposed to start.
Simplified look at #HurricaneLee future steering. Big ridge protects Florida. Jetstream/ trough dives south allowing Lee an opportunity to hitch a ride out to sea. But most of jet lifts, and opens up path for “transitioning” storm to threaten extreme eastern New England 1/ pic.twitter.com/wiCPAxwW30

Classic morning spaghetti plot update for Hurricane Lee shows a track toward Nova Scotia Saturday night as a weakening tropical cyclone with expanding wind field. Coastal flooding/storm surge and some wind damage will be the main impacts. Note that a few models do bend the TC… pic.twitter.com/jqToqi017R

If the storm stays within its projected path, I’d imagine there would be a good bit of rain and some tropical storm-force gusts.
If the storm tracks a bit to the east, that would obviously be better, but we won’t know how that will fare until the next couple of days. If the game gets played, I’d imagine it would be a wet and sloppy affair, with winds blowing too hard to have a legit passing attack.
That likely would benefit Boston College, but FSU’s defensive front is no joke, and I don’t see them having much success running the ball. I do worry about bad field conditions increasing the possibility of injuries.
I haven’t heard anything, but maybe they can delay the start of the game until later that day since the storm will supposedly begin to move quicker as it moves north.
Obviously, the safety of the players and families in the area is of the utmost importance, and hopefully, the storm will veer east to lessen the impact on everyone.
