FSU football versus LSU pulls MASSIVE ratings on ABC
By Kelvin Hunt
When youβre FSU football fans, it comes with the territory that some folks are going to hate and some are going to love you.
That translates into value because people show interest in the outcome of your games, and Sunday night was no different.
FSU football once again proves why they are one of the most valuable brands in college football by pulling in a massive rating on ABC Sunday night against LSU.
Check out the news released by ESPN via their social media PR account:
I keep telling the folks who donβt understand the business side of things why FSU has demanded more money from the ACC or threatened to leave. This LSU game is a prime example. How does FSU wind up in the prime time spot, to begin with?
Because theyβre a national brand. Why did FSU and LSU pull such a large number? Because both are national brands TV networks are not going to match up a national brand like LSU against a team like Wake Forest, Syracuse, or Boston College.
Some ACC folks will say the game did big numbers because both teams had a top-10 ranking. Well, neither team had a ranking last year in the same game that averaged over seven million viewers.
The year before that saw FSU coming into the season off a 3-6 record and pulled in over eight million viewers against a No. 10 ranked Notre Dame team. TV networks understand how business works and what teams will draw the most eyeballs.
Itβs why they picked those two teams to air when there was no other real competition to go against. This has been FSUβs argument the entire time when talking about how they deserve more money from the ACC. FSU is a more valuable brand than anyone else in the ACC, including Clemson.
They are the only school aside from Clemson that can reach an elite level and stay there for sustained periods to compete for national titles. Some media members tried to use FSUβs record from 2017-2021 against them when talking about how they didnβt deserve more money.
Whatβs the excuse going to be now?
