FSU football has some of the best defensive backs committed in its 2024 recruiting class. They look to continue stockpiling that talent with some additional targets.

One of those is four-star Zaquan Patterson from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida.

Miami was the leader early, but other schools like Michigan, Auburn, FSU, and Ohio State came on late. FSU seemed to have some momentum coming down the stretch, but like typical South Florida recruitments, it’s never cut and dry.

Zaquan Patterson announced his commitment to Miami at halftime of his game airing on ESPN Saturday.

Its a recruitment Miami couldn’t afford to lose on national TV with how their recruiting class has failed to meet fan expectations. However, it’s a recruitment far from over like a few Miami commits.

Patterson hasn’t taken one official visit yet and will likely do that during the season, along with five-star JoJo Trader. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both take official visits to FSU during the Miami game at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Not only does Miami have to worry about FSU, but Auburn would be another school that could be a factor. FSU already has two safety prospects committed, five-star safety KJ Bolden, and three-star safety CJ Heard.

FSU will continue recruiting Patterson, as well as four-star Jamari Howard to finish its defensive backs class. FSU has most of its recruiting class complete and can focus time and resources on the few remaining targets. I would expect the regular season to affect some of these recruits. We’ll see how Miami looks on the field early in the season.

If they struggle, it’s possible to see some of their commits begin to waver. Congrats to Miami for finally getting a recruiting win over FSU on the trails. We’ll see if it sticks throughout the season.
