Winning Short-Yardage Situations

The FSU offense will have to find more success in short-yardage situations in 2023. They converted third downs at a great rate, which was a vast improvement over the previous year.

However, the Noles left a lot of points on the field because they couldn’t move the line of scrimmage much when opponents knew they might run the ball. Clemson’s defensive line stalled the offense in these situations several times.

FSU could have put LSU away in the first half if they could have converted a fourth and two right before the half. It’s one of the prime reasons the FSU coaches went to the transfer portal to get bigger and more experienced players.

FSU had 10 red zone opportunities where they came away with zero points last year.

They had games where they could have ended the game and not put the defense back on the field if they could have ran a successful four minute offense. If the offense can begin to consistently win short-yardage situations? The sky’s the limit.
