Linebacker Play

FSU goes into the 2023 season in much better shape at linebacker than a year ago. Last year, Tatum Bethune was a new face learning the defense, and Kalen DeLoach was waiting to truly emerge as a starter.

Both players return in 2023 with a ton of experience playing together. DJ Lundy has reshaped his body and isn’t a liability when he gets on the field, and redshirt freshman Omar Graham Jr. looks like he’s ready to take the next step to provide solid depth at the position.

FSU will continue to run mostly a nickel defense, which puts DeLoach and Bethune on the field together.

The combination of DeLoach and Bethune will be the best FSU has had since arguably 2015.

The biggest improvement we need to see from this group is better coverage in space on third downs, and the need for more impact plays behind the line of scrimmage.

If the defense can get those things from this unit? This defense could be elite in 2023.
