Special Teams

I’ve written and talked about this unit a ton, but I can’t stress how important it will be for this unit to show improvement in 2023.

The field goal kicking was atrocious last season, and the coaches brought in some competition for Ryan Fitzgerald. The two kickers started off fall camp strong, but had an up-and-down week last week.

Can one of them find the consistency needed before the season opener?

There are question marks at punt returner with Mycah Pittman’s departure. Transfer Keon Coleman looks to have the inside track on the job, but we’ve yet to see him in action.

I need to see the kickoff return units improve. Kickoff return defense cost FSU a couple of times last year, and the kickoff unit left a lot to desire, aside from Trey Benson’s kickoff return for a touchdown against Boston College.

If the Noles can improve in these areas, that can be the difference between winning or losing close ball games.

I don’t expect there to be many close games, but this area needs to be better nonetheless.
