FSU football: Which top-10 team finishes the season unranked?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football checked in at No. 8 in the AP Preseason Poll and the Coaches Poll. It makes sense, with FSU returning so much firepower on both sides of the ball. FSU tied for No. 16 nationally, scoring an average of 36.1 ppg.
They return Heisman contender Jordan Travis, All-ACC players Trey Benson, and Johnny Wilson, and two of the best additions from the transfer portal in Keon Coleman and Jaheim Bell.
I expect the offense to be even better, but the defense should improve. The FSU defense tied for No. 20th nationally, allowing an average of 20.6 ppg.
Aside from LSU and Clemson, I don’t see much on the schedule that should pose much of a threat, at least not enough to drop the Noles outside the top 25 at the end of the season.
That’s why the tweet below is so interesting. Which team inside the top 10 would you pick to finish the season unranked?
That likely means finishing the season no better than seven wins, including a bowl game. I don’t know if any of these teams will lose six regular season games, but apparently, it almost always happens.
The candidate I’d pick would be USC because their defense was abysmal last season. They also face a tough back-half schedule consisting of Notre Dame and Utah in back-to-back games.
They play California and then play Washington and Oregon in back-to-back games. If it’s not USC, it’s likely Washington.
Three of their final four games are against teams ranked inside the top-20 preseason, and they play Oregon earlier in the year.
