Jacques Patrick gets another shot in the NFL with Tennessee Titans
By Kelvin Hunt
Former FSU football running back Jacques Patrick has been chasing his dream of playing in the NFL for a long time. Patrick went undrafted out of FSU after his senior season in 2018. Patrick got drafted by the Tampa Bay Vipers in the 2020 XFL Draft.
However, that league folded in April 2020, and he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals a week later. Patrick’s NFL career became several signings to practice squads and releases with multiple teams. He finally broke through and made his NFL debut with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.
He appeared in two games, with two rushes for 12 yards. He got released in November 2021 and went from the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and back to the Bengals in July 2022.
Patrick got drafted for a second time by an XFL franchise in November 2022 and released from the contract in May 2023. Patrick worked out for the Denver Broncos and signed on May 15, 2023, and promptly got released on June 1, 2023.
They say persistence pays off. Patrick, who’s only 26 years old, will get another shot in the NFL, signing a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans Monday.
What’s interesting is this is a two-year deal, and the NFL Preseason is already underway. The Titans lost their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears over the weekend.
They will play their second game Saturday night against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Titans have had two running backs to go down with an injury over the past few days. They are likely looking for depth at the position behind Derrick Henry.
Patrick was a big back with soft hands out of the backfield in the passing game. It would be great to see him get a real opportunity in the league in 2023. I’ll be looking to keep track of how he’s performing in the preseason.
