FSU football had its first 2023 fall scrimmage Sunday night. I wrote about some of the standouts from the scrimmage here.

The team got in over 100 plays, which is a lot of valuable reps for many guys that likely won’t be starters because FSU limited most of their veteran players.

Why would they do that? Well, a couple of reasons. It helps prevent potential injuries and allows the younger guys to gain experience in an actual game setting. The overall vibe from the coaches press conferences was extremely positive.

Why is that important? This coaching staff tends to be extremely candid, and it’s easy to read between the lines.

If you never hear a player’s name, that’s a clue. The word “solid” is a clue. Of course, there were things to clean up because there were many young or new players out there for the first time. However, the confidence isn’t quiet like it was last year.

I wrote about it then, like Mike Norvell knew something others didn’t about that team. This year? Mike Norvell speaks in different terms and tone regarding this 2023 team.

Here are some major takeaways from the first fall scrimmage.
