Short-Yardage Offense

If the Noles were better in these two categories last year, they would have won the ACC and made the College Football Playoff. However, their inability to sustain drives in short yardage situations was frustrating.

I can think of numerous times against Clemson where they couldn’t get a first down in short yardage situations. Clemson has a goal-line stand after FSU has the ball first and goal inside the five yard-yard.

FSU failed to score points in the second half against NC State, and had four consecutive three and outs, and two interceptions in the second-half.

FSU coaches understood their shortcomings and added three huge offensive linemen from the transfer portal this spring. Those additions should help win more of these situations.

Also, it should help at the end of games when the FSU offense is running their four-minute offense and avoid giving the ball back to the opposing offense.

FSU has to win more of these situations if the offense wants to be elite in 2023.
