FSU football: Does 2023 team have 50 percent blue-chip ratio?

FSU football has been one of the bigger stories going into the 2023 season. FSU won 10 games for the first time since the 2016 season last year and brought in arguably the best transfer portal class nationally.

Some pundits think FSU can win the ACC and compete for a College Football Playoff spot but believe it would be a mismatch against a team like Georgia or Alabama.

I saw someone on the X platform come straight out and say FSU didn’t have a roster of 50 percent or greater blue-chip ratio.

I started thinking about starters on both sides of the ball and how many guys made the All-ACC team last year who returned for 2023.

Then, I thought about how many three-stars from high school signed over the last few recruiting cycles.

Now, this can get tricky because we have high school and transfer recruiting rankings. However, some three-star players have produced like blue-chip players with development, and some young blue-chip players haven’t had time to manufacture production yet.

So I went down the FSU football roster and re-ranked each player I knew for sure was on scholarship, excluding punters and kickers.
