Fentrell Cypress-DB

Virginia’s transfer defensive back was one of the biggest additions from the transfer portal for Adam Fuller’s defense.

Cypress has been battling Michigan State transfer wide receiver Keon Coleman at practice each day, and holding his own.

The Second-Team All-ACC selection continues to get more comfortable in the defense after switching to a more man-to-man press technique. It took a while to get acclimated, but I expect he’ll be ready to go with all of the reps he’ll receive in fall camp.

FSU head coach Mike Norvell and FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain have given Cypress high praise of late. Cypress will likely have the opportunity to play opposite of Renardo Green.

It’s a position that was not a strength for the Noles last season. However, I expect Cypress to fill that void and provide better coverage to give the pass rush more time to get to the quarterback, especially on passing downs.

He should make an immediate impact.
