FSU basketball head coach Leonard Hamilton has had a tough go of it over the past two seasons. The FSU legend had his worst season ever at FSU last year.

It was a combination of bad injury luck, lack of continuity on the roster, and coaching staff have been contributors. However, Hamilton recently communicated he had no desire to retire in the immediate future and is hungry to return FSU basketball to the heights they enjoyed just a few seasons ago.

It’s going to take excellent recruiting like they had a few years ago, and that starts with getting high-quality players on campus and ultimately enrolled.

Players like four-star small forward Derrion Reed fit the bill, and Reed set an official visit with the Noles for September 7th.

Reed ranks as the No. 22 player and No. 3 Power Forward nationally. Reed is from Grovetown, Georgia, but will play his senior season at Prolific Prep in California.

Reed has already taken official visits to Mississippi State (May 15) and Kansas State (June 13). It sounds like official visits to Alabama and Georgia could round out his official visits list.

Reed lists as 6’7″ and 180 pounds. He’s a versatile scorer that can put the ball on the floor with solid mid-range game. His athleticism is crazy, just look at it on display on the put-back dunk this summer.

FSU has a recent history with five-star forwards like Scottie Barnes and Matthew Cleveland. Barnes was ACC Sixth Man of the Year before becoming a NFL First Round Draft Pick. Cleveland was also ACC Sixth Man of the Year, but transferred to rival Miami after last season.

It’ll likely be a hard sell, considering other programs likely use his age against him, and the program is rebuilding. We’ll see if Leonard Hamilton still has a little bit of magic left in the recruiting hat.
