FSU football defensive line recruiting could use a boost, especially at defensive tackle. The Noles have one commit at the position with three-star Jamorie Flagg, but need more in this recruiting class.

However, the cupboard looked mostly bare over the summer, with only one defensive tackle (Alex January) taking an official visit to FSU.

January committed to Texas, and I wasn’t sure what the staff were planning to do. Four-star LJ McCray isn’t taking his official visit until early October during the Virginia Tech game, but he hasn’t been to campus since early March.

Four-star Artavius Jones hasn’t been to campus since early March and took official visits to Miami and UCF this summer. His official visit to UCF happened on June 2nd, and Jones committed to Miami on July 14 before taking his official visit on June 23.

Which was odd, but it looks like his recruitment isn’t over since he appeared on FSU’s campus Thursday for a visit. Noles247 reported the visit and the following quote: “I’m locked in with FSU and Miami right now.”

That quote doen’t sound like someone that’s totally committed somewhere, not to mention visits that school’s biggest rival less than two weeks after committing.

FSU got Jones on campus twice this spring, once in January, offered him in February, and he came back for the March visit. It’s a great sign they got him back on campus this summer, and they still have a potential official visit in their back pocket to use at some point.

Not only would flipping Jones be a massive get to fill a need, but it would be taking one of Miami’s best commits from their class. He’s their third-highest commit, ranking No. 165 nationally, and as the No. 21 defensive lineman. He lists at 6’3″ and 280 pounds.

We’ve been waiting for FSU to move at this position. This visit could be be the momentum needed to secure a flip down the road.
