How FSU football is positioning prep players to contribute soon

The FSU receiver and tight-end units lacked talent and experience when Mike Norvell and the staff arrived. The receiver unit was among the worst in the ACC in 2021, and FSU failed to sign a single high school receiver in the 2022 recruiting class.
It’s why the coaching staff went to the portal and got Johnny Wilson, Mycah Pittman, Winston Wright Jr., and Deuce Spann.
Those additions helped FSU go from the worst unit in the ACC to argubably the best. The Noles added another big-time portal guy in Keon Coleman this spring. It’s likely Wilson and Coleman will head to the NFL after this season.
Pittman transferred to Utah, and Spann will look to get more snaps this season after developing last year. However, the Noles signed a talented group of high school receivers in the 2023 recruiting cycle:
- Hykeem Williams (2023 five-star signee)
- Vanderevius Jacobs (2023 four-star signee)
- Darren Lawrance (2023 three-star signee)
The will also have Kentron Poitier, Darion Williamson, Ja’Khi Douglas, and Destyn Hill. Plus, they have four blue-chip receivers committed in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
FSU signed transfers Jaheim Bell and Kyle Morlock from the portal in the spring. However, Markeston Douglas can return in 2024 and 2022 signee Jerrale Powers will return, plus FSU has five-star Landen Thomas committed for the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Tons of quality prep guys will begin to contribute at both positions in the coming years.
