Gilber Edmond

The defensive end position has given some concern to FSU football fans going into 2023. However, it is in much better shape compared to last season.

Jared Verse and Patrick Payton are proven players, unlike last year, and South Carolina transfer Gilber Edmond replaces Derrick McLendon, who transferred to Colorado.

There’s a lot to unpack there. Edmond’s arrival likely contributed to McLendon’s departure, and McLendon going to Colorado likely tells you how other programs valued him. Edmond is a proven player who played over 600 snaps last season at South Carolina.

That’s an incredible amount, which likely means he played many snaps while fatigued, or had to take some off because he was always on the field.

That won’t be the case at FSU, and I expect him to be an upgrade over McLendon, who only had 3.5 sacks, three QB hurries, and five tackles for a loss.

Edmond had nine tackles for a loss, two sacks, and nine QB hurries. He should provide quality snaps when the starters come off the field.
