I’m glad to see the coaches make the move, and I’m glad to see Courtney open to trying it because I believe it’s the best use of his athletic ability. There are not many 6’3″ and 228 pound linebackers running a 4.5 forty(his listed size now).
He tested in the 99th percentile of athletes at the opening event in 2020. After two years in FSU’s strength and conditioning program, it’s likely those numbers are even better now. I know people like to get up in arms about things they don’t have information on, and I’m talking linebacker recruiting specifically.
This move has likely been in the works for some time. Mike Norvell isn’t the type of coach that flies by the seat of his pants. He’s incredibly detail-oriented and ahead of the curve on many things. I believe how FSU recruits the linebacker position is one of them, meaning it’s not a premium position like many continue to believe.
They use those resources for positions like QB, WR, OT, DE, etc. Think about it. There’s a reason more running backs got selected in the first two rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft than linebackers. We know how de-valued the running back position is in the NFL nowadays. There you go.
