Why The Move Now?

Aside from the physical attributes, I pointed out was how smart Courtney is, with a 4.0+ GPA coming out of high school. Omar Graham was the same way, so these guys should learn and apply things quickly.

Folks ask why they didn’t move Courtney to linebacker in the spring? Maybe he wanted to continue competing at tight end since he had given an entire year towards learning the position and got some playing time last year?

I know the staff emphasized Omar Graham a ton in the spring, and freshman Demarco Ward enrolled early, so it was important to get those guys reps.

It’s not like they needed Courtney this year, with Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune returning as starters.

It’s probably something the staff discussed with Courtney after spring exit interviews and determined it was the best spot for him if he was trying to get on the field.

Not to mention there would be playing time next season if he put in the work this summer, fall and got reps in some games this year while having another spring and summer to continue learning the defense for the 2024 season.
