  • Aaron Hester-DE
  • Dante Anderson-DE
  • *Patrick Payton-DE
  • Byron Turner Jr-DE

*2024 Draft Eligible
I only listed the transfers with more than one year of eligibility remaining. FSU will have to be similar to last year and get those draft eligible guys to return for another year (i.e. Jared Verse this season) to continue to give those young guys time to develop.

The good news is there should be plenty of reps to go around in several blowout games this year  for these young guys to gain experience. FSU does need to improve recruiting in the trenches, but as long as they continue to win 9-10 games or more a year, they should have their choice of defensive ends/tackles from the transfer portal. It’s not common for true freshmen defensive ends to contribute much in year one and sometimes year two despite being a highly-ranked high school product. IF FSU gets two years out of a transfer player like Gilber Edmond and maintains or improves his production from South Carolina even a little bit? The chances of him being more productive in those two years than Keldric Faulk would have been in his first two years(former commit who flipped to Auburn) are fairly high. He’s already physically ready to play and has a ton of experience. I think that’s something the staff factors into certain recruitments. The gamble is will those type caliber players become available in the portal?

What FSU will have going for it that they didn’t have before the 2022 season? Proof of getting guys to the NFL and back-to-back years of winning, which is always attractive to quality transfer players.

Parting Thoughts

It depends on how many high school players the coaches want to take, but they’ll have a top 10 class if they take 22+ high school players. It’ll all depend on how they want to balance it with portal guys, etc.

One thing about this staff is they usually have a plan and overall strategy, and they’ve threaded the needle on everything for the most part. They also know when it’s not worth burning resources for certain positions or players and allocating those resources elsewhere. Stay tuned, I think July will be fun.
