FSU football expects to field an elite offense in 2023. The defense should be excellent as well, but an interesting question presented itself on Twitter by someone I’ve interacted with a bit over the years.

The guys from the X’s and Noles Podcast provided their opinion on the subject which prompted the question.

"Mike Norvell teams are going to win or lose based on their offense. He[Mike Norvell] doesn’t want Adam Fuller to design his defense to be No. 1 in the country…he’s gonna outscore you. We saw it at Memphis…we’ve seen he everywhere he’s been. He wants to outscore you, get enough stops in the red zone and force field goals in the red zone to go win ball games."

You listen to the entire segment below, and they go into the Keon Coleman and Jalen Key recruitments as supporting their narrative:

What I want to do is look at everything as a whole. I don’t fully agree with their statement. I think there’s some truth to it. I mean, most football teams are going to win or lose based on their offense.

The lack of offense is why many of the FSU teams in the 2000s didn’t win as many games as they should have. It’s why the 2017 team imploded when they lost their QB for the season in the first game of the year.

Does Mike Norvell value offense more than defense? Let’s get into it.
