FSU softball: Makenna Reid and Kalei Harding listed in 2023 D100 ranking
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball came a couple of games short of their ultimate goal to win a 2023 national championship.
It was an amazing season watching, as FSU softball won the ACC Regular Season and Tournament Titles while avenging last year’s loss in the Regionals to make the WCWS Finals against heavy favorite Oklahoma.
Team 40 comprised several standout players, with many obtaining All-ACC Accolades.
D1 Softball comprised a list of the top 100 players for the 2023 season, and two FSU players made an appearance in the No. 81-90 section:
The good news for FSU softball fans? Both players will return for the 2024 season and will play large parts in the identity and success of Team 41. Kalei Harding had more starts than anyone on the team and batted .316 with 10 home runs and 48 RBI, but more impressively filled in the vacancy at third base left by the departure of all-time great Sydney Sherill.
Harding led the team with 22 doubles, which helped FSU set a team record with 122 doubles last season. Makenna Reid led the team with a 13-0 record, .97 ERA, and six saves. She appeared in 43 games with four starts, pitching 79.1 innings, which was second on the team to FSU ace Kathryn Sandercock.
Reid had 91 strikeouts against only 22 walks, and opposing batters hit a team low of .141 against her. Coach Lonni Alameda did a great job grooming her under Kathryn Sandercock, and she’ll look to take the next step in her development into the eventual ace of the staff next season.
FSU softball has several players with the potential to make the D100 list. Obviously, Kathryn Sandercock will make an appearance, but who else do you think deserves to see their name listed? Devyn Flaherty, Kaley Mudge, Jahni Kerr, or who else?
