FSU baseball head coach Link Jarrett knew he needed to stockpile more pitching talent heading into the 2024 season.

That area was the weakest part of the roster when Jarrett became head coach mid-summer after taking Notre Dame to the College World Series.

FSU lost most of their best pitchers to the MLB Draft, and others hit the transfer portal. The latter is what Jarrett has taken advantage of not long after the 2023 season concluded.

FSU baseball announced five signees earlier this week (three pitchers) and got another pitching commitment from West Virginia’s Noah Short.

Short announced the news via this Twitter account late Saturday night:

Short is a right-hander that throws from a low, sidearm, or submarine release point, which is likely hell for right-handed batters. He averages more than a strikeout per inning and had 33 walks in 72.2 career innings pitched, with a .234 batting average allowed to opposing batters. He’ll likely pitch in a relief role for the Noles against right-handers but can get left-handed batters out as well since his pitches will tail away from those hitters.

Short holds the West Virginia baseball appearances record, so it appears he will be someone that can pitch in multiple games per week as a specialist. This facet is something the Noles didn’t have last year when it came to matching up with opposing offenses and getting certain batters out in key situations in games. FSU has done a solid job in the portal so far, also adding Yoel Tejada Jr. from Florida this week. They also have four JUCO pitchers committed but will have to wait and see if any decide to pursue professional careers once the MLB Draft takes place. Either way, Link Jarrett is aware of the holes on the roster and looking to improve the team in every facet. So far, so good.
