FSU football: Four-star safety Ricardo Jones set his commitment date
FSU football continues to build off of its No. 9 ranked recruiting class for the 2024 cycle.
Is Momentum coming for Surtain?
Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has not secured a commitment since being hired by the Seminoles on January 18, 2023.
However, Surtain Sr. has an opportunity to fulfill that task as Class of 2024 four-star safety Ricardo Jones from Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, will announce his decision on June 27th, between Florida State and Clemson.
Ricardo Jones to FSU?
The talented defensive back dropped his top nine schools list consisting of Florida State, Clemson, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Auburn, Texas, and Arkansas on May 20, 2023.
Jones has been a top priority at the safety position since receiving an offer on May 24, 2022, from former defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson.
Depth at the safety position
Considering that the Seminoles seemingly have depth issues in their current safety room, it is vitally important for FSU to acquire at least two safety prospects in this cycle. They already have one safety committed in four-star CJ Heard from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.
Unfortunately, the coaching staff saw former four-star commit Jordan Pride flip his services to Texas A&M back in April. As a result, the Seminoles had to expand their target board to ensure they would meet their needs.
FSU or Clemson?
Jones has made it down to Tallahassee for an unofficial visit on January 29th and has an official visit scheduled for this upcoming weekend (June 23rd), with the Seminoles before making his decision.
However, the Clemson Tigers are making a push for the safety prospect after offering him later in his recruitment on March 10, 2023. To make matters worse, the Tigers received a crystal ball prediction back on June 12th from Clemson247 Insider Cory Fravel with a confidence level of 7 out of 10. He officially visited Clemson on June 2nd.
The coaching staff will have to try their best to make the official visit truly something special to remember.
