FSU football currently does not have any cornerback prospects committed in their 2024 recruiting class at this time. I mentioned in a previous article, the Seminoles are hosting two talented cornerbacks this week on official visits in four-stars, Cai Bates and Jameer Grimsley.

Is Grimsley hinting at committing?

Grimsley was a new scholarship offer that the Seminoles extended on February 1, 2023. The Tampa (FL) native did not have any scholarship offers until Boston College offered in January.

The cornerback prospect has a busy summer official visit schedule where he has/had official visits scheduled with North Carolina (June 1-3), Penn State (June 9-11), Florida State (June 11-13), Alabama (June 16-18), and Michigan (June 23-25).

Interestingly enough, Grimsley went to his Instagram story on Monday afternoon and posted “Commitment coming soon.”

Thoughts on the Instagram story

The timing of the Instagram story is fascinating, given that he is currently on an official visit to the Seminoles. Grimsley grew up a fan of Florida State’s football team, which is always a factor to consider.

However, recruiting is an ever-changing process where teenagers make one of the hardest decisions of their lifetimes, choosing the school they will be attending for three to five years.

In need of recruiting momentum

FSU football needs some much-needed recruiting momentum this cycle since they have not gotten a commitment since April. But it seems the coaching staff has been selective with their takes during this recruiting cycle.

Replacing production for 2024

Unfortunately, there have only been three defensive recruits that have committed to the program. It gets even murkier as defenders such as Jared Verse, Fabien Lovett Sr., Braden Fiske, Dennis Briggs Jr., Kalen DeLoach, Tatum Bethune, Akeem Dent, Renardo Green, and Jarrian Jones will not be returning to the team after this upcoming season.

FSU has its work cut out for it self if they want to be successful on the defensive side for 2024. If Grimsley were to commit to the Noles, it would set the tone for the cornerback position.
