Dino Babers hired a new defensive coordinator in 73-year Rocky Long, an architect of the 3-3-5 defense. Syracuse had a solid defense last season before injuries took their toll. The get some linebackers with experience back but lost two of their better secondary players to the transfer portal. It’ll likely be a typical Syracuse defense that plays well early and begins to fall apart as attrition from injuries and lack of depth get exposed. Their defensive line is undersized, and it’ll take some time for Long learn which players fit what he likes to do best.
