Southern Mississippi

  • 25.3 PPG
  • 5.49 YPP
  • 34 percent third down conversion
  • 39 pecent Red Zone TD percentage
  • No. 112 FEI

Southern Mississippi saw its offense improve tremendously from 2021 to 2022. They had a quarterback battle going into the 2022 season that saw freshman Zach Wilcke take the reigns for several games early before missing the second half of the season.

Their offense is built around the running game, and Frank Gore Jr., who rushed for 1,382 yards and nine touchdowns. However, 51 percent of that production came in three games against Liberty, Louisana-Monroe, and the bowl game against Rice.

They lost their leading receiver, Jason Brownlee, who signed as an UDFA with the New York Jets. He had 55 receptions for 891 yards and eight touchdowns. He did light up the Miami Hurricanes for five receptions and 102 yards, and a touchdown. Nevertheless, it’s stop the running game, and their offense becomes mute.
