Offense

The 2023 team is a much better offensive team compared to last year. Let’s take a look at how they compare:

2022

Batting  Avg           Runs            Slugging %            On-Base %                    Steals
.293                       363                  .491                       .386                             103-122

2023

Batting  Avg           Runs            Slugging %            On-Base %                     Steals
.307                       393                  .503                       .404                              122-144

The 2023 team doesn’t have the home runs from last year, but they make up for it with gap power. This team set a school record with 119 doubles.

They also walked (240) more than they struck out (208) and only struck out 12.8 percent of their at-bats. The 2022 team struck out 15.6 percent of their at-bats.

If we couple all of this with overall team speed and the ability to manufacture runs, it’s a much more difficult unit to deal with compared to last year. They put a ton of pressure on opposing pitchers and defenses with their patience at the plate, speed, and ability to put the ball in play.
