National Perception

FSU football hasn’t had a ranking inside the preseason top 10 since the 2017 season. That will likely change once the preseason polls officially release in the coming months.

However, more importantly, all of the advanced metrics point towards FSU football having one of the more complete teams.

FSU finished with the No. 8 offense and No. 36 defense last season, according to FEI metrics. I mentioned how they return more production than anyone and added key components from the transfer portal.

Bill Connelly’s SP+ advanced metrics(who were slow to catch up to FSU’s performances last year) have FSU with the No. 19 offense and No. 14 defense.

I still think Bill’s numbers are off for whatever reason. Anywho, oddsmakers have the Noles as betting favorites to win the ACC for the first time since around 2014.

It seems like every little podcast trying to be a national podcast constantly talks about FSU football in a positive light, unlike the five-year period from 2017-2021. Now, folks will want to see if the Noles are for real in 2023 and will likely pass judgment on the LSU game.

If FSU wins, let the hype train commence, and if they lose, they were overrated, probably. Either way, it’s the first time FSU has been talked about on a national stage in a LONG time.
