Duke

Record (9-4)

FEI offense ranking- No. 29

FEI defense ranking- No. 62

FEI overall ranking- No. 41

Mike Elko surprised many folks in his first year in Durham, leading the Blue Devils to their first nine-win season since 2014.

The crazy part is they did it with the offense, even though Elko made his bones as a well-thought-of defensive coordinator before taking the head coaching job. Let’s be honest, every team Duke beat last year was terrible. The best team they beat was UCF in the bowl game, and bowl games don’t count like they used to, with guys sitting out, etc.

However, all four of their losses were by a touchdown or less. The new ACC without divisions did them no favors with the 2023 schedule.

They will get beat up in the first game against Clemson, and still have to play a stretch of Notre Dame, NC State, FSU football, Louisville, Wake Forest, and North Carolina. They only have one bye-week in that stretch.
