It was a rough first year for new head coach Tony Elliot. The Cavaliers started the season 2-1 but nearly lost against Old Dominion at home, but turned around and probably should have beaten Syracuse on the road the following week. However, it was all downhill after that. Virginia lost by 17 or more points against Louisville and Duke.

However, they got their third and final win over Georgia Tech before they fired Geoff Collins. Virginia took a terrible Miami team to the brink in overtime. They played North Carolina tough but got beat by 30 points against Pittsburgh in their final game. Tony Elliott is an offensive-minded coach, but their offense was dreadful in year one.

However, their defense wasn’t bad at all. If they can fix issues on offense, they might surprise some folk, but there’s a long road ahead.
