FSU football: Five players who could break out in 2023
4. OT Bless Harris
As I alluded to in my article about the offensive line position group, FSU offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins possesses the luxury of having quality depth. Nine of sixteen scholarship offensive linemen on the roster have collegiate experience. I never thought the depth would be as serviceable with how horrific the Seminoles’ offensive line was at one time.
Atkins still needed to replace starters Dillan Gibbons and Jazston Turnetine from a season ago. As a result, he went into the transfer portal and located several quality options. He acquired three offensive linemen in Casey Roddick (Colorado), Keiondre Jones (Auburn), and Jeremiah Byers (UTEP). He also snagged two highly-touted recruits in the 2023 cycle in offensive tackles, Lucas Simmons and Christopher Otto.
Everyone will compete at a high level. One of the more anticipated battles is happening at right tackle. Players such as Bless Harris, Jeremiah Byers, Darius Washington, and Julian Armella are vying for the position.
The most underrated one out of the bunch is Bless Harris. The Seminoles acquired the Lamar transfer a season ago. Ironically enough, he was the starter in the 2022 season opener against Duquesne, but he suffered a season-ending arm injury in the second half of the contest. However, the 6’5″ and 325-pound mauler has recovered fully from the injury. With Harris starting at tackle, it would allow Byers to compete at the right guard spot with D’Mitri Emmanuel and let Armella have another year to develop in the system.
