FSU football: 4-star DE, DD Holmes includes FSU in top 6 schools

FSU football does not have pass rushers committed to the 2024 recruiting class after three-star Keishawn Mashburn decommitted from the program on March 30, 2023. The Seminoles got good news in their favor as four-star defensive end Dylan Stephenson received a crystal ball prediction yesterday with a confidence level of 7 out of 10 to Florida State from Noles247 FSU Insider Brendan Sonnone.

On Wednesday morning, four-star defensive end DD Holmes from Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC, released his top six schools list, which includes teams such as Florida State, Michigan, Maryland, South Carolina, Florida, and Rutgers.

Holmes would be a phenomenal acquisition for the Seminoles as they look to acquire at least two talented pass rushers this cycle. Unfortunately, it is up in the air regarding their recruitment with several defensive end prospects, such as four-star Booker Pickett Jr., four-star Kamarion Franklin, and four-star LJ McCray (hybrid defensive tackle). FSU has some work to do as the Washington, DC native unofficially visited Tallahassee once this spring (multi-day visit).

But this recruitment should give Seminole fans some relief given associate head coach/defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins and special teams coordinator/defensive ends coach John Papuchis have been successful in the past for the DMV area. For reference, the Seminoles signed Class of 2022 three-star defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase from Concordia Prep in Towson, Maryland.

Holmes will be taking an official visit FSU football before he eventually decides. The hope is that FSU can bring him during the loaded June 23rd visit weekend. If the coaching staff can get him around the other vocal commitments that weekend, such as four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek and four-star running back Kameron Davis, it could go a long way in getting Holmes to pick the good guys.
