FSU football defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. is working tirelessly to get highly-touted prospects to Tallahassee. However, the Seminoles only have one defensive back committed to the program in three-star safety CJ Heard from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia (he committed when Marcus Woodson was on staff).

Some fans might be worried that the Seminoles have not seen the benefits of hiring Surtain Sr. However, as a wise man once said: “Patience is a virtue.” FSU is directly involved with over 15 defensive back prospects.

While most know that five-star cornerback Charles Lester III from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida is at the top of the target board for the Seminoles, FSU also really likes the skill set of four-star athlete Jalewis Solomon (who is being recruited as a cornerback) from Schley County High School in Ellaville, Georgia.

Solomon had the opportunity to interview with On3 National Recruiting Writer Jeremy Johnson about his relationship with the Seminoles’ coaching staff. Here is the direct quote from the interview:

The coaching staff has showcased their ability to develop relationships with a variety of prospects. The amount of transparency and the family-like environment certainly has played a major role in being so successful on the recruiting trail this cycle.

As it relates to Solomon, he will be officially visiting Florida State during their jammed-packed June 23rd weekend, which includes double-digit blue-chip prospects. The 6’1″, 185-pound defender excels in coverage and is very instinctive in locating the football. During the 2022 season, he recorded 29 total tackles (3.5 tackles for loss) and three interceptions.

The Seminoles have competition in the recruitment given that Solomon dropped his top eleven schools list on January 28, 2023, which included schools such as Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, USC, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Alabama, and Colorado.

While he has scheduled an official visit to South Carolina for the weekend of June 2nd, it should bring Seminole fans relief that he will be visiting Florida State during the weekend of June 23. For reference, FSU will likely acquire at least two cornerback prospects in this cycle, given redshirt seniors Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones will be gone after this season.
