FSU football: Could 2024 recruiting class reach 70 percent blue-chip ratio?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football is off to a great start in its 2024 recruiting class. The Noles have 11 commits, with seven having a blue-chip ranking.
The narrative from rival fans regarding Mike Norvell and the inability to recruit blue-chip high school players looks to be dying a quick death in this recruiting cycle. FSU coaches can leave no doubt if they can capture the bulk of their remaining top targets.
FSU has taken smaller high school classes in each of the first three seasons under Mike Norvell to leave room for more transfer portal targets. While FSU will likely continue to use the transfer portal, they’ll become much more selective to meet roster needs.
That means they’ll sign larger high school recruiting classes since they are in the mix for more elite prospects. The cap for high school recruiting used to be 25 players, and I doubt FSU would sign more than that.
Since they have 11 commits, if they all stick, that would mean 14 spots are remaining. FSU would need to add 11 more blue-chip players to reach 18 blue-chip players to reach a 72 percent blue-chip ratio.
The crazy part? FSU is in a great position with at least eight blue-chip players who have already scheduled official visits with the Noles in June. FSU has 11 uncommitted blue chip players set to officially visit on June 23 alone.
There are probably another 3-4 more blue-chip players who will schedule official visits with the Noles. What if FSU defeats LSU in the season opener? That would turn more heads and likely get the attention of a few more blue-chip players.
Mike Norvell hit the 50 percent blue-chip ratio for the first time in the 2023 recruiting cycle after hitting 35 percent and 47 percent in 2022 and 2021, respectively. A jump to 70+ percent would put the Noles in elite company.
