FSU football: 15 players that could be drafted in 2024
By Kelvin Hunt
Trey Benson
The redshirt junior running back Trey Benson returns after emerging in the second half of last season. Benson failed to reach his goal of 1,000 rushing yards by 10 yards but should garner the majority of the rushing attempts in 2023.
An improved offensive line and improved Jordan Travis will likely make things easier for Benson, who averaged 6.43 yards per rush last season with nine touchdowns.
Running backs don’t have the same value in the NFL as they did 5-10 years ago, but Benson is an explosive back who can change the numbers on the scoreboard when he gets to the second level of a defense.
He’s also capable out of the backfield in the passing game, with 13 receptions for 144 yards, with most of that production coming late in the season.
Benson is also someone who’ll test well at the NFL Combine. He lists at 6’1″ and 221 pounds, and will likely run in the 4.5 range in the 40-yard dash.
If he does that and surpasses 1,000 rushing yards in 2023? He’ll hear his name called in next year’s draft.
