FSU football has its spring game in the books. What did we learn from the game?

There were many blue chip recruits in attendance, and the Noles came away with a commitment from blue-chip athlete B.J. Gibson, a two-sport (football and baseball) star, and five-star tight end Landen Thomas flipped to the Noles on Monday.

Also, you had 2024 QB Luke Kromenhoek, and 2024 RB Kameron Davis shut down their recruitment.

Some players stood out in the game, and some didn’t. I am going to dive into the players who I think better positioned themselves on the depth chart moving forward.

LB Kalen DeLoach

Kalen was probably the MVP of the spring game with a beautiful jump on the ball interception of QB Jordan Travis and would have returned it to the house. He also had a forced fumble and fumble recovery, which would have been another touchdown. DeLoach was seeing the whole field, and his quick reaction to the ball was impressive. With Kalen raising his level of play paired with Tatum Bethune, the middle of that defense will be solid.

DE Byron Turner

Turner was really fast off the line and could have had more than the 2 sacks he was credited for. Turner is seizing his opportunity with Derrick McLendon transferring, and he will push for playing time on the defensive line rotation.  Payton, Verse, Edmond, and Turner is a very solid two-deep rotation and scary for opposing quarterbacks.

WR Kentron Poitier

Boy did Kentron look like a seasoned veteran out there, and he had an incredible one-handed catch that was Odell Beckham-like. I have been high on this guy for a while and was waiting for him to get to that next step in his play. Poitier has four catches for 80+ yards and a touchdown in the game, but he made his presence known. I have not seen this much talent at the wide receiver position since maybe never. Jordan Travis and the future quarterbacks have to be extremely excited to have these playmakers.

RB Rodney Hill

We all knew his name was going to be on the list. He just stood out from the beginning, Hill is an elusive back with great speed and quickness. Though he did have a fumble, his day was impressive with 40+ yards rushing and a touchdown, he also had a nice receiving touchdown. He hit the holes hard and got to the second level with ease. You pair him with Benson and Toafili and the loss of Ward is not so bad.

Quick Game Summary:

I thought the quarterbacks did a good job overall. Jordan Travis was solid except for that DeLoach interception. Rodemaker probably outplayed Duffy for that backup spot. Brock Glenn was solid for his first real game action, the future is bright for him.

WR Hykeem Williams got a touchdown as well. Jared Verse was solid and had a sack. Quindarrius Jones had an interception as well.

All in all, I think the defense played better but this team is solid on both sides. The offensive line has over 200 combined starts which is more depth than FSU has had in so long.
